Coursework is delivered 100 percent online with embedded Practice Learning Experiences and Experiential Learning Practicums. Emphasis is placed on the quality and safety of patient care throughout the RN to BSN curriculum. Learn to implement culturally appropriate strategies for health promotion, risk reduction and disease prevention across the life span. Develop the ability to use clinical judgment and decision-making skills when assessing the health status of individuals and families and evaluating their response to healthcare.

In this program, you will:

  • Synthesize knowledge from the biological, social and behavioral sciences, the humanities and nursing to provide appropriate, culturally sensitive care to individuals, families and communities
  • Demonstrate inquiry and analysis in applying patient care technologies and information systems to support safe nursing practice and population risk reduction
  • Lead safety and quality improvement activities as part of the interprofessional team and as an advocate and manager of nursing care
  • Manage care transitions and promote population risk reduction with diverse communities in collaboration with members of the interprofessional healthcare team
  • Participate in monitoring institutional, professional and public policy to maintain adherence to standards of practice within legal, ethical and regulatory frameworks of the professional nurse
  • Demonstrate leadership skills related to clinical and professional issues, financial matters, and human resources when providing and evaluating care

The RN to BSN online program is for ADN/diploma graduates of an institution accredited by one of the six recognized regional accrediting associations and a recognized national accrediting association.

Registered nurse applicants licensed in the U.S. who have completed an international nursing diploma program that is not affiliated to a university may not satisfy the associate degree requirement for admission to UHV’s RN to BSN program due to the non-academic nature of this type of coursework. Please contact an International Student Advisor for further information.

In addition to UHV's general admission requirements as described in the Undergraduate Student Admission section of our Academic Catalog, students seeking the RN to BSN must meet the following requirements at the time of application:

  • Complete an application for undergrad admission
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited associate degree or diploma program
  • Evidence of a valid, unencumbered Texas or designated state registered nurse license
  • Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended, sent directly from each institution to UH-Victoria
  • A minimum ADN program GPA of a 2.0
  • A science GPA of a 2.5 and an overall GPA of 2.5
  • No grade of “D” or “F” unless the course has been repeated and the student has earned a “C” or higher; no more than two (2) course repeats

For the RN to BSN online program, the curriculum includes 10 courses totaling 30 credit hours, which must be taken in addition to general education requirements.

NURS 4314: Introduction to Evidence-Based Practice

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course provides a foundation for the use of research in practice through a synthesis of introductory research knowledge with emphasis on writing and scholarly exchange. Prerequisites ENGL 1301, 1302, BIOL 2401(2301, 2101), 2402 (2302, 2102), 2420 (2320, 2120), PSYC 2301, 2314, MATH (STAT) 1342, Chemistry or a physical science and admission to the RN to BSN program.

NURS 3310: Transition to the BSN Role

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course focuses on the baccalaureate-prepared nursing role and explores the standards that define professionalism. Pre-req: Admission to Program

NURS 3411: Comprehensive Health Assessment

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 4

This course provides an in-depth coverage of a comprehensive health assessment and introduces health promotion and how this concept is applied within nursing practice. Prerequisite NURS 3315/Co-requisite NURS 3310

NURS 3315: Foundations of Comprehensive Pathophysiology in Nursing

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course examines basic pathological processes that underlie diseases commonly found in clinical practice. Modifiable factors that offer opportunities for nursing intervention are identified.

NURS 4310: Global Health Nursing

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course explores global health to include health promotion, population health, primary healthcare, and health policy from a nursing perspective throughout various geographic regions. Prerequisites NURS 4313 and NURS 4314

NURS 4311: Healthcare Organizations and Informatics

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course explores U.S. healthcare delivery organizations and payment systems. The role of information systems in the continuity of care is articulated. Prerequisites NURS 3310 and NURS 4314

NURS 4322: Ethics in Healthcare

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course builds on the ethical and legal foundations for professional nursing practice and healthcare services. Prerequisites NURS 3310 and NURS 4314

NURS 4410: Leadership Roles

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 4

This course emphasizes leadership and management theories and includes a practice learning experience focused on nursing management issues. Prerequisites NURS 3310 and NURS 4314

NURS 4313: Population Focused Community Health

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course introduces the concept of the population focused health, health policy, and the roles of the nurse in community service. Prerequisites NURS 3310 and NURS 4314

NURS 4110: Capstone Project

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 1

This capstone course provides students with an experiential learning practicum experience to integrate clinical knowledge with concepts/theories into professional nursing practice. Prerequisite: NURS 3310, NURS 4314, NURS 3315, NURS 4410, NURS 3411, NURS 4322, NURS 4313

Students must take 54 credit hours of general education courses, selected from the following categories.

ENGL 1301: English Composition I

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Composition course providing instruction in the writing and analysis of expository prose; emphasis on rhetorical principles and basic organizational modes.

ENGL 1302: English Composition II

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Continued Development of writing skills acquired in English 1301 and development of critical thinking skills in argumentation, analysis and interpretation of various types of literature.

HIST 1301: U.S. History I

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Survey course of US history from 1492 to 1865 including social, political, intellectual, economic and military history will be explored.

HIST 1302: U.S. History II

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Survey course of US history from 1865 to present, including social political, intellectual, economic and military history will be explored.
